Furness Wind Farm

The possible renewable energy farm site sits on agricultural land, immediately to the west and the east of the Harlock Reservoir. Our plan is:

  • to build three state-of-the-art wind turbines west of the reservoir, on land belonging to Standish Cote Farm
  • to upgrade the existing 2.5 megawatt(MW) Harlock Hill Wind Farm on the eastern side of the reservoir. This can be done by replacing the five ageing wind turbines of Harlock Hill by two more advanced and efficient models. They will be the same type proposed for the western side. We are working closely with the Baywind Energy Co-op to make sure local people will benefit from this unique opportunity.

In total, we will be submitting a planning application for five new wind turbines. The project is known as Furness Wind Farm, after the wider area in which it is situated. The new wind farm will have an installed generating capacity of 11.5 MW of electricity, producing enough green electricity for the demand of just over 6,400 homes* every year. The project could contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions annually by replacing electricity supplied from coal and gas fired power stations. The wind farm has an estimated lifetime of 20-25 years. After that time, the turbines can be decommissioned with minimum disturbance to the site.
